The mast arrived on April 1st, but this is no April Fool's joke. The process of making the mast for the new Oseberg ship has started.
The mast – like the keel - is of local origin. It has grown on a farm at Nøtterøy, close to Tønsberg, and has been donated to the project by Ole Johansen (who happens to be a first cousin of the mayor of Vestfold county and firm friend of Oseberg, Per-Eivind Johansen). Ole has also donated another straight and solid pine tree, so now the yard has been secured.
The timber was picked up by these guys, from the left: Marius Klophmann Halle, Ole Johansen, Geir Røvik, Lars Bill (who will be making the mast) and Tormod Henriksen. (Photo: Christine Browne)
