Jarle Rosseland’s magnificent gift
August 2010: The New Oseberg Ship Foundation recently received a fantastic donation from the internationally renowned artist, Jarle Rosseland: 30 graphic prints of historical motives, mainly from his Vinland collection of 1984. The donation represents a value of more than NOK 100.000.
"We are very happy and touched by Jarle Rosseland’s interest in and goodwill to our project,” says chairman of the board, Einar Chr. Erlingsen. "Rosseland happens to be one of our biggest sponsors. He has designed and custom-made the print "Oseberg” especially for our project. Our sponsors receive this picture in recognition of their generous donation. (See Support Us).
The prints from the Vinland series will later be presented collectively and sold for the benefit of the Foundation.
Jarle Rosseland (born 1952) is a leading artist in Norway with an international reputation, including France, Germany, Japan, the US and Canada. His enormous sculpture "Vinland” (a stone sculpture in the shape of a Viking ship) is one of the major works at the Chicago Atheneum Museum’s International Sculpture Park.
Rosseland will again be visiting Chicago on 15-17 October – in connection with The International Vinland conference at North Park University.
